Shape & setup
Full shape, surface, and setup comparisons
START WITH THE SURFACE
J2CR is not one specification.
Honolulu offers an original CR surface and Crystal Blue™ Endurance Surface™, also called Blue Grit™. Identify the surface and handle before comparing a paddle or checking event eligibility.
Original J2CR
Honolulu lists a CFC carbon-fiber face and 16 mm multi-density foam core, with 5.5- or 6-inch handles. It explicitly identifies this as the USAP-approved version, separate from Crystal Blue.
View original J2CR ↗J2CR Crystal Blue / Blue Grit
The Crystal Blue surface is applied over the CFC face. This version also lists a 16 mm multi-density foam core and 5.5- or 6-inch handles. Honolulu labels it UPA-A approved.
View Crystal Blue J2CR ↗Approval descriptions above are manufacturer claims. Check the exact paddle against your event’s required registry. A blue colorway alone does not identify the surface version.
TAKE IT TO THE COURT
Make the comparison useful.
Start with your current paddle.
Repeat the same dinks, transition resets, compact counters, and drives. Notice late contact, balls sailing long, and off-center misses. A few spectacular winners tell less than a repeatable pattern.
Write down the setup.
Record the exact model, surface, handle, overgrip, and added weight. Compare touch, depth, hand speed, stability, and handle comfort against your current paddle. These are your impressions, not laboratory scores.

SURFACE CARE & EXPECTATIONS
Check the finish before you commit.
Honolulu says Crystal Blue faces can vary in appearance and texture pattern, and that cosmetic variation within its tolerance is not eligible for exchange or warranty. Read the exact listing’s terms before ordering.
BEFORE YOU ORDER
A few practical answers.
Which CR shape fits your priorities?
J3CR is the shortest and widest of these three at 16 × 8 inches. J6CR is longer and narrower, prioritizing reach; its lower listed twistweight range suggests less resistance to twisting on off-center contact than J2CR. J2CR sits between them in length and width and offers two handle lengths. The swingweight ranges overlap, so these figures describe tradeoffs rather than an overall ranking.
How does the discount work?
JohnKew publicly advertises 10% off Honolulu with JOHNKEW. Enter it at the manufacturer’s checkout and verify the total. Eligibility, exclusions, and stacking can change; this guide has not tested the code at checkout. Prices exclude tax and shipping.
What should I check before competition?
Match the exact model, surface, thickness, and model number with the equipment rules for your event. USAP and UPA-A approval are different. Check the USA Pickleball registry or UPA-A list as applicable; a similar retail name is not enough.
